Classes beyond the Yoga Seed Studio bring mindfulness to people who are underserved or at-risk. They often don’t have access to these tools. Therefore, these classes are carefully designed to be a safe practice for those experiencing trauma. While the studio classes are not trauma informed, we do our best to use similar methods.
Restore Personal Agency
Most of all, we encourage everyone to honor their own unique physical and emotional needs through the awareness practice of yoga. One of the many ways to practice personal agency in a yoga class is by using modifications and props provided by the seed. Follow your own desired movements to adjust the practice to your liking.
Yoga is a discipline for freedom and needs to be available to everyone regardless of physical ability, access to capital, or exposure to trauma. The Yoga Seed is dedicated to creating an atmosphere where all people feel welcome. As a result, we offer sliding-fee options as well as accessible classes such as Chair Yoga and All Bodies.
Services Provided by the Yoga Seed
We seek to provide yoga as an evidenced-based practice specifically geared towards the unique needs of traumatized populations. Therefore, Yoga Seed’s Trauma informed programming was developed and refined by a team of experts with diverse backgrounds. We offer a variety of programs that work with different populations who have experienced trauma. Furthermore, our curriculum is developed with input from experts in the field and incorporates elements from Restorative Justice and Dialectal Behavior Therapy. Most noteworthy, our programs actively promote distress tolerance, personal agency and mindfulness.
We offer over 33 regularly scheduled classes each week. The classes are for beginner to advanced students in a variety of styles, including classes for specialized populations such as All Bodies, Chair Yoga and Queer Community. We offer a variety of ways to pay for classes, including sliding fee options. Lastly, no one is turned away for lack of funds
The Yoga Seed offers two separate Yoga Teachers trainings. Our 200 hr YTT provides a solid foundation to begin a career as a yoga teacher, while our Extended Education Training is a deep dive into teaching yoga to traumatized populations and people with specific health conditions. As leader of non-profit yoga in the greater Sacramento region with emphasis on accessibility and community outreach, the Yoga Seed provides a truly unique and compassionate 200 Hour Teacher Training program. Not only will you learn how to teach an asana class, but you will also gain confidence, cultivate community, and integrate yogic philosophy into teaching and personal life. The 200-hr training is bolstered by a focus on restoring personal agency and supporting our community to be empowered via body and breath.
The Yoga Seed’s Trauma Informed & Condition-Specific extended education prepares any yoga teacher to be an effective instructor for vulnerable populations in high-risk environments and to teach condition-specific classes while covering the breadth and scope of Yoga Seed outreach programs.
Both the 200 and extended ed. teacher training modules are Yoga Alliance certified.
