Are you looking for ways to stay cool during the summer months?

Long ago yogis discovered a way to cool down during warm times with cooling breath, or in Sanskrit:  Sitali.

Here’s how to practice cooling breath:

  1. Sit or lay in a comfortable position with eyes closed or a soft gaze.
  2. Open your mouth so the lips are in an O shape.
  3. Curl your tongue into a U shape like the picture below:

4. Breath in and out through the mouth for 5-10 rounds of breath, then let your breath return to normal.

5. Repeat if desired.

Some folks genetically cannot make this shape with their tongue. If that’s you, here’s an alternative:

  1. Sit or lay in a comfortable position with eyes closed or a soft gaze.
  2. Open your mouth so your lips are in an O shape.
  3. Take the top of your tongue to the bottom of your top row of teeth.
  4. Breath in and out through the mouth for 5-10 rounds of breath, then let your breath return to normal.
  5. Repeat if desired.

We hope this breath helps to keep you cool and calm for the rest of summer! Stop by our studio for a class and show us your cooling breath face soon.
