Mental Freedom Class
It is widely believed that breathing, physical movement and meditation techniques used in a yoga practice can support the creation of an emotional state that is better able to handle life incidents. Yoga techniques provide a way of focusing and a way of observing and responding to events that for most can significantly reduce the stress levels and support mental stability. Difficult things still happen to yogis, but techniques learned on and off the yoga mat gives skills to individuals that allow them to respond in different more balanced ways.
We have, therefore, created this pilot program to work with our community, inside of which many suffer from mild anxiety and exhausted depressive states caused by everyday stress. This class is not a cure or a treatment for illness, but it is a class offering physical and breath related tools to relax the anxious monkey mind that can often sit in the drivers seat if we let it.
Mental Freedom Yoga works to bring you into your body, instead of being swept from thought to thought, the Chitta Vritti (mental fluctuations) that often control the mind.
It is built off the premise that the physical is just as important as the mental when dealing with monkey mind. Part of the class focuses on moving the body faster than the mind in order to slow it down. Once the body is moved rapidly, rest comes, and the breath becomes the focus of the class. Yoga asana and flow is then incorporated to increase physical fitness as the body releases endorphins. The class ends with an extended relaxation called Yoga Nidra, this guided meditation is the ultimate way to de-stress from the day. This class is perfect for beginners and advanced practitioners alike, as it asks individuals to proceed at their own pace, no experience is required, just the desire to find peace in a supportive community.
It is taught by Zack at 7:30 on Wednesday nights. Check our schedule for more information.
